Grades of ASTM A234
ASTM a234 WPB fittings have many grades, such as WPB, WPC, WP11, WP12, WP22, WP91, and so on.
In these standard Grade, WPB is the most commonly used for medium and high-temperature steel pipelines. W means weldable, P means pressure, B is grade b, refer to the minimum yield strength.
The original raw material of ASTM a234 WPB fittings may be from steel pipes, such as ASTM A106 Gr.B and C seamless steel pipe. Also from steel plate, like ASTM A285 Gr.C, ASTM A516 Gr 70, ASTM A572, etc.

Chemical Composition of ASTM A234 WPB
Grade WPB fittings made from the seamless steel pipes or plates maximum C is 0.35%.
Forging fittings Carbon content 0.35% maximum and Silicon content 0.35% maximum, no minimum.
For each reduction of 0.01 of Carbon content, Manganese maximum content increases 0.06%, up to the maximum of 1.35% for Mn.
Copper, Nickel, Niobium, and Molybdenum sum content shall not be over 1.00%.
Niobium + Molybdenum shall not exceed 0.32%.
For other grades:
For each reduction of 0.01% below the specified C maximum, an increase of 0.06% Mn above the specified maximum will be allowed, up to a maximum of 1.35%.
The sum of Cu, Ni, Cr, and Mo shall not be over 1.00%.
The sum of Cr and Mo shall not be over 0.32%.
The maximum carbon equivalent (C.E.) shall be 0.50, based on heat analysis and the formula C.E.=C+Mn/6+(Cr+Mo+V)/5+(Ni+Cu)/15.

The manufacturing processes for A234 WPB pipe fittings include forging and shaping operations.
As well as pressing, hammering, piercing, extruding, upsetting, rolling, bending, fusion welding, and machining. Or the processes of a combination of two or more of these operations.
In very large sizes, the fittings may be manufactured in pieces and welded together as is the case for many large fittings.
